The Harvest Progress of Summer Grain Wheat Across the Country Has Exceeded Thirty Percent

by jingji24

Golden waves of wheat are rolling across China, and the summer grain harvest is in full swing. A reporter learned from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs that as of 17:00 on May 30, the area of summer grain wheat harvested across the country has reached 129 million mu, and the harvest progress has smoothly crossed the 30% mark. The picture of a bountiful summer grain harvest is gradually unfolding.

Judging from the harvest progress of each province, there are obvious regional differences. Hubei, Sichuan and South China were the first to complete the wheat harvest tasks, with every grain safely stored, setting the stage for the national summer grain harvest work. The wheat harvest progress in Anhui Province has exceeded 80%. On the vast Jianghuai Plain, combine harvesters are shuttling back and forth, constantly gathering the joy of a bountiful harvest. Henan, as a major wheat-producing province, has seen its harvest progress exceed 60%. During the crucial period of rush to harvest, it is racing against time and seizing every second. The harvest progress in Shaanxi has reached 20%, and the wheat harvest work is advancing steadily. Although Jiangsu has made nearly 15% progress, it is making every effort to organize machinery and manpower to accelerate the harvesting pace.

This year’s summer harvest road is full of challenges. Since mid-May, more than ten cities at the junction of Henan, Hubei and Anhui provinces have been hit by continuous heavy rain. The weather has sharply deteriorated from drought to flood, disrupting the original summer harvest rhythm. Meanwhile, the summer grain wheat has matured earlier in a concentrated manner, and the harvest time is tight. The complex situation has brought arduous tasks to the summer harvest work. Facing the unfavorable situation, the three provinces acted promptly, responded actively and organized the rush harvest operations efficiently. By allocating a large number of combine harvesters and organizing professional harvesting teams, they have been working around the clock in the fields and farmlands across the country. Ultimately, before the arrival of this round of heavy rainfall on May 30th, the relevant areas basically completed the wheat harvest work, minimizing the losses caused by the weather to the greatest extent and demonstrating a strong emergency response capability and determination to ensure food security.

However, the summer harvest work is still not over. The meteorological department predicts that the widespread rainfall that began on May 30th will continue, and the center of the rainfall is rapidly moving eastward. Key wheat-harvesting provinces such as Henan, Anhui and Jiangsu will face significant rainfall. However, this rainfall has also brought positive impacts, which is conducive to improving soil moisture and creating favorable conditions for subsequent mechanical sowing. Previously, various regions were racing against time to accelerate the harvest progress, which had already bought precious time for the aerial seeding of the crop and gained the initiative in the “game” against the weather.

Next, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs will continue to closely monitor weather changes, as if taking the pulse precisely, to ensure the smooth progress of the summer harvest work. Organize relevant provinces to further strengthen the wheat harvest work, make preparations in advance for emergency harvesting and drying, and ensure that the emergency plan can be promptly activated in case of adverse weather conditions. Accelerate the harvesting and drying of mature wheat, leaving no detail that may affect the storage of summer grain unattended, and strive to ensure that summer grain is harvested in a timely and efficient manner with every grain stored. At the same time, we should strengthen the connection between harvest and planting, and take mechanical measures as an important means to promote the increase of large-scale per-unit yield. By promoting advanced agricultural machinery and technologies, we can improve the quality and efficiency of mechanical sowing and planting, laying a solid foundation for a bountiful harvest of grain throughout the year.
